All rates are non-commissionable (net) except Recruitment rates.
For commissionable rates, gross up by 17.65%. Whenever Thursday or Friday is a non‑publishing day, the Thursday or Friday rates will be in effect on the day prior to the non‑publishing date respectively. Rates are subject to change without notice.
ANNUAL REVENUE CONTRACTS
Advertisers signing an annual revenue contract agree to use the revenue amount signed for within the 12 month period. Advertising revenue from all Calgary Herald products and services contributes towards the revenue contract. Annual contracts are automatically renewed at the volume rate earned over the previous 12 month period. Annual revenue contracts will be reviewed after the first six months to determine if the contract rate requires adjustment for the balance of the term.
ROP DISPLAY ADVERTISING
Display advertising is ordered by the number of columns (width) multiplied by the number of agate lines (depth). Our newspaper page measures 10 columns wide by 310 agate lines deep (written as a 10 x 310). The cost of a display ad is calculated by the number of columns multiplied by agate lines, multiplied by the appropriate line rate.
TEARSHEETS
The Calgary Herald does not provide hard copy tearsheets for billing and verification purposes. Advertising customers may register to receive electronic tearsheets by contacting your Calgary Herald advertising sales representative. Note that invoices also carry a warrant specifying the publisher’s guarantee regarding performance. Hard copy tearsheets may be ordered at a cost of $3.00 per copy. The deadlines for ordering hard copy tearsheets are the same as ad booking deadlines.
GUARANTEED POSITION CHARGES
- “A” section and City section: mandatory 15% surcharge.
- Specified page (when available): 25% surcharge.
- Specified section (other than “A” and City sections):10% surcharge. All specified section requests must be accompanied by an alternative position request unless the above surcharges are applied.
- Please note that position surcharges are calculated on space only (not on colour).

CLASSIFIED DISPLAY
Classified Display ads are placed as near as possible to the appropriate classification. Classified display ads in colour may be misclassified. Minimum size 1×28, 2×20, 3×30, 4×40, 5×40, 6×40, 7×40, 8×40, 9×40, 10×40.

$80 for replies picked up or mailed for 30 days. Phone (403) 235‑7168 for replies. Every effort will be made to forward replies to box holders as soon as possible. We accept no liability with respect to loss or damage alleged to arise from either failure or delay in forwarding replies.
To provide additional reach to advertisers, all classified liner ads (except employment classified) are posted within our online Shopping website. The ads are fully searchable and this online service is being constantly expanded and refined with buyers and sellers in mind.
